Overview
Fuel word of mouth by making it easy for customers to refer you, earn with you, and return to you.
Set up a referral program where your clients can earn credit when they refer a friend to your business. For each successful referral, clients will earn a discount either as a fixed amount or percentage which will be tracked automatically so it can be applied to an invoice.
Referrals offers tracking so you can see how many referrals your clients have generated, the jobs that were created from referrals, and how much revenue those jobs brought it.
Referrals availability
Referrals can be added to all plans for $29 USD per month. View our current pricing plans.
Referrals can be purchased individually or as part of Jobber's Marketing Suite for $79USD per month. Marketing suite includes access to referrals, reviews, and campaigns.
To check what plan you're on, navigate to the Gear Icon > Account and Billing. If you have any questions about your plan's features or pricing, our support team is here to help!
Get started with referrals
Once you've added referrals onto your subscription plan, the first step is setting up the referral credit that clients will receive when they refer a friend to your business and that friend books with you.
From the side navigation, select Marketing > Referrals.
Next, use the Type dropdown menu to select if the referral credit will be a fixed amount ($) or a percentage (%), then enter the amount and select Continue.
Send a referral campaign to spread the word
Next in the set up, you have the option to send your clients an email campaign to let them know about your referral program. This campaign is prebuilt for referrals and is available as part of the referrals marketing tool, even if you don't have the campaigns add-on.
Select Launch Referral Campaign to set up your campaign. If you'd like to skip sending the campaign (you can send it later), select Skip.
If you've selected the referral campaign, the first step is selecting the client segment that will receive the campaign. The options are:
- All clients (that haven't been archived)
- Clients with upcoming visits (these are clients that have at least one visit within the next 30 days)
- Past clients (these are clients where their last job was completed more than 12 months ago, with no upcoming jobs scheduled)
These client segments can also be narrowed down further. Select the Edit button to view the clients that fall into this segment, then select Edit criteria to add additional segmentation using tags.
Once you've selected the client segment, select Continue to Content.
Next is customizing the email content.
In this step you have the option to edit or add:
- an email subject line
- header image (optional)
- Note: this should be formatted landscape
- heading (optional)
- email body
Note
The email preview shows a sample referral link. Since the referral link each client receives will be unique to them, the email preview shows a placeholder – this placeholder cannot be copied and pasted since each client will have their own link.
There is an editor for the message body, including options to:
- customize the font (campaign fonts include Helvetica (default for all templates, Arial, Courier New, Georgia, and Trebuchet)
- bold text
- italicize text
- underline text
- strikethrough text
- add headings (including H1, H2, and normal)
- add a link
- undo
- redo
- add images
Once you've finished setting up the campaign content, click Review Campaign. You will then be brought to an overview of the content that you've added for this campaign. If this information needs to be updated, click Back to move to the previous step.
The information to be reviewed is:
- Recipients: this is the client segment that will be receiving the email campaign
- From: the email address this email will be sent from
- Reply-to email address: if customers reply, this will be the detail reply-to email address. This is your email address listed in Settings > Company Settings. At this time, the reply-to cannot be changed
- Subject line: the email campaign subject line
Note
if you haven't verified your emails by sending a campaign previously, you will need to verify your email address. You will be emailed a verification code to make sure that you have access to this email address. By default, campaigns are sent from your company email address, which you can adjust from the Company Settings page. Replies will be sent to this address, as well.
Check your email for the verification code then enter the code in the box.
Note: The verification code will expire 10 minutes after it is sent.
Once you're ready to set your email campaign live, select Send and emails will start sending. Once emails are sent this cannot be undone. If you would rather set your campaign to send at a later time, select Schedule to select a scheduled date and time for the campaign to be sent. There is no limit to the number of scheduled campaigns you can have at a time.
Note: Scheduled campaigns may send up to 10 minutes after the scheduled start time.
If your campaign has been scheduled and you edit the campaign content before it is sent, the scheduled send date will be paused as the campaign will be put back into draft mode.
View referrals on clients
Once your clients start referring others to your company, on the referred client's profile, you will see "Referral" in the lead source field as well as a field that shows the client who referred them to your business.
Referrals can be added either manually or automatically.
To manually add a referral, create or edit a client. From the lead source field, select Referral. This will add a field for the referrer's name where you can add the client who made the referral.
When a client refers a new client to your business and the new client uses the existing client's referral link to request a service, the new client will be added into your client list automatically. The new client's profile will show the client who made the referral as the referral lead source.
Your clients can find their unique referral links in client hub or from receiving your referral campaign.
View referral credits on invoices
When a referred client books their first job, the invoice will have the referral credit applied automatically. Below the subtotal line, the referral credit will show as a dollar value.
Note: Clients who have made successful referrals will only receive a credit when their referred clients make their first payment. If the referred client continues to book services with you, the original referring client won't receive referral credits after the first invoice.
If a client has more than one referral credit available, their earliest earned referral credit will be applied to the invoice.
Track referral performance
To track the performance of your referrals, navigate to Marketing > Referrals to view the referrals dashboard.
The referrals dashboard is where you can see at a high level:
- Leads: This is the total number of leads gained through referrals
- Jobs: The total number of jobs created through referrals
- Job revenue: Total value of jobs created through referrals
- Referring clients, including how many leads, jobs, and job revenue each client has brought in
If you have previously sent the referral campaign, select View Campaign from the "Track your referral performance" insight to see how the campaign has performed. The insight will also show the date your last referral campaign was sent.
Manage your referrals
If you need to make changes to your referral program, navigate to Marketing > Referrals, then select the Manage button. There are three options to manage your referrals:
Incentives
To update the incentive that you've offering, select Incentives then set the Set credit for referrals toggle to On.
This is where you can update the type of referral credit you're offering (fixed or a percentage) as well as the amount.
This is also where you can preview the credit email that clients will receive when they refer someone to your business.
Share your referral program
The manage referrals drawer has an option to launch your referrals campaign.
If you've previously sent the referrals campaign, the drawer will show the date the campaign was last sent.
Referral link message
To preview the message your clients will be sending their friends when referring your business, select the Referral link message from the Manage drawer.
This message is not customizable. By default, it will include a link to your request form so that new customers can request work.
