How to collect payment using Tap to Pay
A note about using Tap to Pay on iPhone
Before your team can start collecting payments with Tap to Pay on iPhone, an account owner or admin user must first complete Apple’s compliance steps. This includes:
- Agreeing to Apple’s Terms of Service
- Linking an Apple Account
You’ll be prompted to complete this setup either when:
- Starting a Tap to Pay transaction on an iPhone, or
- Visiting Jobber Payments settings in the mobile app (account owners only)
Once this setup is complete, everyone on your team with payment permissions will be able to accept Tap to Pay transactions on both iPhone and Android.
This setup is not required for Tap to Pay on Android.
To collect a payment and have the client Tap to Pay:
- From the Jobber App, navigate to the quote or invoice you're collecting a payment for.
- If you're collecting a deposit on a quote, tap Collect Deposit.
- If you're collecting a payment on an invoice, tap Collect Invoice.
- Select the button for Tap to Pay on iPhone, or Tap to Pay on Android.
- Your client can review the payment details, add a tip if you have the option enabled, then tap the Continue to Pay button.
- When the Tap to Pay symbol appears, prompt your customer to tap their card to the device by following the instructions on screen. If the payment goes through successfully, a confirmation screen will appear letting you know the payment was received.
What happens when a Tap to Pay payment can't be processed?
In the event that the payment can't be completed, you will see a screen indicating that the payment failed.
Select Back to Payment Method to go back to the start of the payment collection workflow. From here, you can select a new payment method or try Tap to Pay again. Another option is to select Request Online Payment to send your client the quote or invoice so they can pay online through client hub.
Send a receipt
When you collect a payment using Tap to Pay, Jobber Payments can automatically send your client a receipt by email. To make sure receipts are sent automatically, the client’s email address must be saved in their Jobber profile and the setting to “Automatically send receipts” must be turned on in your Jobber Payments settings.
With this setting enabled, your clients will get a digital receipt as soon as the payment is processed—no extra steps required.
If you’d like to send a receipt manually (or resend one), you can do that right from the invoice in your Jobber app:
Open the invoice associated with the payment.
From the invoice, scroll down below the invoice total to the Payments section.
Tap the Payment to open the receipt.
Tap Email Receipt.
This way, your client gets a professional, written record of their payment—either automatically or whenever you choose to send it.
