Overview
Adding text to quotes is a way to add extra information or verbiage into the body of your quote without using a line item that is associated with a cost or quantity.
Adding text is commonly used (but not limited) to:
- Include a description to help your clients choose between optional line items
- Include information such as the scope of work
- Include details about warranties or terms of service
Adding text to quotes
When creating a quote, there will be a blank line item by default that you can add your products or services into. Below, there will options to Add Line Item or Add Text.
Adding a line item adds a product or service to this quote where you can enter the quantity, unit price, and the total will update accordingly.
Clicking Add Text will add a line item that has the fields for name and description (on select plans an image option also appears), but the field for quantity, unit price, and total don't appear.
If you are using the text as an explainer for other line items and want to re-order the line items, use the Drag and drop icon to put the line items in the order you want.
For example, if you are building a quote where your client can choose between different product options, you may want to add text first to ask them to make a selection. If you don't happen to add that text first while creating the quote, no worries. Just use the Drag and drop icon to move the text above the optional line items.
What does your client see?
Your client will receive an email or a text message letting them know that they have a new quote with an option to view it in client hub.
In client hub, your client sees the quote with the products and services you are offering. Added text shows alongside the line items in the body of the quote. The added text will look like a line item, just without the quantity, unit price, and total.
Preview as client
Before sending the quote to your client, you can preview how it will appear when they view it in client hub. From the quote in Jobber, click More Actions > Preview as Client.
What you see in this preview screen is read-only, so if there are any changes that you need to make on the quote, go back to the edit screen to make them.
Converting the quote to a job
Since added text only appears on quotes, when the quote is converted to a job any text will appear on the job as a line item worth $0.00 with a quantity of 1. That $0.00 line item will also appear on any invoices that are generated in the future from this job.
