Overview
The ability to differentiate between a lead and active client can help you respond to potential clients faster - winning you more work.
With a lead label showing in your client list, you can track and manage your clients and leads. This way you can tell at a glance who is an existing client and who is a prospective client allowing you to prioritize your time and resources.
Lead labels can be viewed from the requests list and the client list or directly on clients who meet the conditions to be considered a lead.
Lead management is available on select plans. View our current pricing plans.
To check what plan you're on, navigate to the Gear Icon > Account and Billing. If you have any questions about your plan's features or pricing, our support team is here to help!
When does a lead become a client?
In order to track which people have had work done, the label for "lead" will appear until one of these actions is taken:
- A job is created for them
- An invoice is sent to them
- Their quote is approved
These actions represent the jump from a lead or prospective client to a client. Once one of these actions have happened, the lead label will be removed from the client's profile.
If you upgrade your Jobber account to a plan that includes lead management, existing clients that haven't yet passed the actions listed above will have a lead label.
Note: Once the lead label has been removed from a client, it is not possible to remark this client as a lead.
Track lead sources

When adding or editing a client, there is a field for Lead Source. This is where you can indicate how this customer found your business. The lead source field has dropdown options for:
- Referral
- Flyer
- Vehicle wrap
- Event
- Other
You can also choose to add your own custom lead source. From the lead source dropdown menu, select Create New and then enter the name of the new lead source and select Create.
Note: Up to 100 lead sources can be added (including the default lead sources).
Once selected, the lead source appears on the client's profile as well as a column option in the client contact info report.
Automatically add lead sources using UTM tracking
If you are using paid marketing to get leads, your UTM (Urchin Tracking Module) tags can be used to track where the lead came from and automatically fill out the lead source field on clients. UTM tags are small pieces of text added to the end of a URL that help track marketing performance. UTM tags can be added directly to your request and online booking URLs to track how these clients found you.
A UTM tag is made up of a base URL and one or more UTM parameters. The parameters Jobber uses to automatically add your lead source are:
- UTM source (for example: utm_source=google)
- UTM medium (for example: utm_medium=email)
- UTM campaign (for example: utm_campaign=summer_sale)
- UTM term (for example: utm_term=spring+cleanup)
- UTM content (for example: utm_content=blue_banner)
With the addition of a UTM tag, your request link may look like:
https://clienthub.getjobber.com/client_hubs/c41b3424-827e-4ab9-a74d/public/work_request/new?utm_source=facebookLeads that come into Jobber from submitting a request form with the above URL would be labelled with "Facebook" as the lead source, automatically.
With the addition of a UTM tag, your online booking link may look like:
https://clienthub.getjobber.com/booking/c41b3424-827e-4ab9-a74d?utm_source=websiteLeads that come into Jobber from online booking with the above URL would be labelled with "website" as the lead source, automatically.

Report on clients and leads
Jobber offers several reports to help you track and understand your clients and leads from different angles. For insights into your leads, check out the:
To navigate to your reports from Jobber.com, select Insights from the side navigation, then select Reports. The clients report, lead source report, and client contact info report can all be found under the Clients heading.
Use the clients report
The clients report in Jobber provides powerful insights to help you understand and track where your leads are coming from and how they convert into revenue. This report breaks down key details about each client, including their lead source, any UTM tracking data that has been captured, the number of quotes you’ve sent them, and the jobs they’ve booked. By analyzing conversion rates and identifying which sources bring in the most qualified leads, you can make informed decisions to optimize your marketing efforts, improve your sales process, and grow your business with greater confidence.
Use the lead source report
The lead source report gives you a clear picture of which marketing and referral sources are driving new business. This report summarizes how many clients, quotes, and jobs originated from each lead source over a selected time period, making it easy to see what’s working and where there may be opportunities to improve. You’ll also see the total revenue generated from each source, along with conversion rates that show how effectively leads turn into paying work. By comparing the performance of different sources, you can focus your efforts on the channels that deliver the best results for your business.
Use the client contact info report
Another report that can be used to track leads is the client contact info report which includes columns for "Lead (as of today's date)" and "Lead source". This report can be useful because it include the client's contact information like phone number and email address.
The "Lead (as of today's date)" will show either "Yes" or "No" to indicate if this client is considered a lead or not, as of today. Today's date is included in the report to indicate that the lead status reflects a certain point in time. Some of the folks who appeared as leads months ago might now be valued clients so the report would have shown different statuses in the past.
The "Lead source" column displays the lead source entered when creating or editing the client.
Importing clients
When doing a client import, all the entries in your CSV spreadsheet will be entered into Jobber as clients so you will not see the lead label on these clients after an import.
How does lead tracking work with integrations?
Clients created by integrations will have the lead source automatically populated so that it displays the name of the integration the client came from, including the following integrations:
- Thumbtack
- CallRail
- IsOn24
- ResponsiBid
- DeepLawn
- LoyalAs
- Integrately
- Chiirp
- Toolsey
- PATLive
- Wingmate
- Conju
Note: Clients that have synced from QuickBooks Online or Zapier will not have the lead source automatically populated with the app.
When editing the client, the lead source field will not be editable if the client came into Jobber from the integration.
Leads and QuickBooks Online
All clients will sync with QuickBooks Online, including clients that have the lead label.
Leads and Mailchimp
The client's lead status will sync to Mailchimp and is visible on the contact's profile in the Personal Information section.
The lead status appears as "Is Lead?" and can be used to create a segment for your audience. You might want to create a campaign that specifically targets those prospective clients in order to win more work. To target leads, you will want to create the segment with conditions to match "Is Lead?" "is" "Yes".
