Overview
GPS waypoint tracking records where your team members are when they take actions in the Jobber app, such as clocking in or completing a visit. Each action appears as a pin on a map with a timestamp, so you can follow job progress through the day and assign new work to the team member closest to it.
GPS waypoint tracking is available on select plans. View our current pricing plans.

How Jobber records GPS waypoints
Jobber records a GPS waypoint when a team member takes one of these actions in the Jobber app with location services turned on for Jobber:
- Clock in or out of the general timer, either manually or automatically with location timers
- Start or stop a visit timer, either manually or automatically with location timers
- Add notes or attachments to a client, request, quote, job, or invoice
- Mark a visit, on-site assessment, or task complete
Jobber can only record a team member’s waypoints after they turn on location services for Jobber on their mobile device:
Open the GPS waypoints report
To open the GPS waypoints report:
- Select Insights from the side navigation.
- Select Reports.
- Open the GPS Waypoints report.
To see waypoints for a different day, change the date in the report’s sidebar.
Read the GPS waypoints report
The sidebar of the GPS waypoints report lists each waypoint for the selected date, sorted by team member. Each entry matches a pin on the map and describes the action that created it.
Hover over a pin on the map, or an entry in the sidebar, to highlight that waypoint in both places.
View GPS waypoints on the calendar map view
GPS waypoints also appear on the map view of the calendar. Select a waypoint pin on the map to see which team member created it, when they created it, and what action they took.
Understand GPS waypoint accuracy
A GPS waypoint shows where your team member’s mobile device estimated it was when they took an action in the Jobber app. The pin is the device’s best estimate of its position. It doesn’t confirm that your team member was standing on that exact spot.
When you hover over a waypoint in the GPS waypoints report, a shaded circle can appear around the pin. This circle is the accuracy radius the device reported. Your team member could have been anywhere inside the circle, not only where the pin sits:
- A small circle means the device was confident about its location.
- A large circle means the device was less certain, so the pin is less precise.
Waypoint accuracy depends on the GPS signal your team member’s device receives, not on its internet connection.
Sometimes the Jobber app can’t record a waypoint at all, for example when the device can’t determine its location accurately or loses connectivity.
Improve GPS waypoint accuracy
GPS waypoints are less accurate indoors. Roofs, concrete, steel, heavy equipment, and nearby buildings can block or reflect GPS signals. When a team member takes an action inside a large commercial or industrial building, their waypoint can land at the edge of the property, on a nearby road, or at an intersection, even though they were inside.
Accuracy also improves the longer a device has to find its location. Right after your team member opens the Jobber app, their device may only have a rough or saved location. Over the next several seconds, the device refines that estimate using GPS along with WiFi, cellular, and Bluetooth signals.
If one team member’s waypoints are consistently less accurate than others at the same location, check their device. These steps give a device the best chance of reporting an accurate location:
- Turn on location services for Jobber on iOS devices or Android devices.
- Turn on Precise Location for Jobber on an iPhone, or allow precise location for Jobber on an Android device.
- Keep WiFi and Bluetooth turned on, so the device can use those signals alongside GPS.
- Update the Jobber app and the device’s operating system.
- Wait several seconds after opening the Jobber app before clocking in or out.
- Move closer to an exterior wall, window, or doorway, or step outside, before taking the action.
